A royal biographer claims that Queen Consort Camilla, who will be formally crowned on May 6 alongside her husband King Charles, "never contemplated becoming Queen."
The wife of King Charles could never have envisaged herself as "Queen Camilla". However, Camilla will formally become Queen at the historic coronation next month at the age of 75.
According to royal biographer Christopher Wilson, who spoke to PEOPLE, "Considering that for most of her life she'd never contemplated the idea of becoming Queen, she's doing incredibly well."
The author of A Greater Love continued, "It's a hell of a challenge being always in the spotlight at this age, but she's tough and can handle it.
After the terrible deaths of Diana in 1997 and their divorce in 1996, Charles' entourage sought to change Camilla's reputation as the "other woman." Camilla Parker Bowles was been dubbed "the most despised woman in Britain" by the media.
However, after the pair wed in 2005, the public perception had sufficiently adjusted, and they recently celebrated their 18th wedding anniversary.
In her final Accession Day address, Queen Elizabeth expressed her "sincere wish" that Camilla be referred to as Queen Consort when Charles became King. This was motivated by Camilla's commitment to Charles and enthusiasm for her duties.
