It claimed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was the Zelda title with the quickest sales to date.
In contrast, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, which has the highest rating on the gaming review site Metacritic, has sold 7.4 million copies overall.
On Friday, Tears of the Kingdom became a Nintendo Switch exclusive title.
This game is similar to some of the best-ever debuts, although it falls short of the biggest with expected total sales of well over $600 million (£480 million).
Grand Theft Auto V, for instance, generated nearly $1 billion in sales over its three-day debut period.
Nintendo fans have long liked the Zelda series, but the Switch's popularity and the series' transformation into an open-world adventure have changed the appeal of the series.
And aside from Breath of the Wild, which is a sequel, it has already sold more copies than any other Zelda game.
