Actress Ana de Armas honored her Cuban roots while making her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live by beginning her monologue in Spanish and discussing her experience immigrating to the US at 26.
An outburst of applause was met with "Gracias, gracias," from De Armas. "I've had an incredible year, and I'm thrilled to be here introducing this evening's program." "Thank you; I've had a great year and I'm pleased to be here hosting the show tonight."
She made fun of the idea that the character Chandler Bing from the hit sitcom "Friends" was responsible for her acquisition of the language.
De Armas continued, "I speak English, but I didn't when I first came to the United States. My birthplace was Cuba. I immigrated to the United States when I was 26 years old, and I learned English by watching 'Friends,' just like everyone else who does.
The actress also discussed the difficulties she encountered in an acting class when she took the words "I beg your pardon" literally and created a begging situation.
De Armas also discussed her most recent endeavors while expressing her gratitude to Robert de Niro and other actors she has collaborated with.
"Ghosted," a forthcoming project starring Ana de Armas and Chris Evans, is scheduled to debut on Apple TV+ on April 21. The actress also wrapped up shooting "Ballerina," the fourth movie in the John Wick series starring Keanu Reeves.
